What is a flotilla sailing holiday?
A flotilla is a group of 5–8 yachts sailing the same route together. You live aboard your own catamaran with up to 8 crewmates, and the whole fleet — 50+ people — meets in bays and marinas along the way. You get the intimacy of a small crew plus the energy of a big community. Our Ibiza 2026 flotilla sails with the Elmár Sailing Flotilla, October 10–17.
Do I need sailing experience to join?
No experience is needed. A professional ISS-licensed skipper commands the yacht at all times. Want to learn to sail? Help with the sails, lines, and navigation and get hands-on training during the week. Prefer to relax with a book on the trampoline? That works too.
Can I join as a solo traveller?
Yes — many of our guests book alone. You book a single berth, share the catamaran with a small friendly crew, and meet 50+ people across the flotilla. It's one of the easiest ways to travel solo without ever feeling alone.
How much does it cost and what's included?
The berth price is €890 per person for the week. It includes the yacht charter and insurance, professional skipper, dinghy with outboard, final cleaning, bed linen and towels, sailing guidance, and pre-trip planning help.
Not included: an operating kitty of ~€200 (fuel, marina fees, breakfast/lunch provisions), a refundable €250 security deposit, flights, transfers, and restaurant dinners.
What yacht will we sail on?
A Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 (2019) catamaran — 4 private double cabins, 2 bathrooms, max 8 guests. Catamarans don't heel over like monohulls, so the ride is stable and comfortable, ideal for first-time sailors.
Where does the route go?
We start and end in Ibiza Town (Eivissa) and sail to Formentera, the mystical Es Vedrà, Cala Saona, Sant Antoni de Portmany (Café del Mar sunsets), and the Espalmador nature reserve. The route is flexible and adjusted to weather for safety and comfort.
Is October a good time to sail in Ibiza?
Yes. Early-to-mid October offers warm sea (~23°C), air temperatures of 22–26°C, steady sailing winds, and far fewer crowds than July–August. Anchorages that are packed in summer are quiet, and marina berths are easier to get.
How do I get to the starting point?
Fly to Ibiza Airport (IBZ) — direct flights from most major European cities. The marina in Ibiza Town is ~15 minutes by taxi. We recommend arriving a day early to explore the old town of Dalt Vila.
What should I pack?
Pack light, in a soft duffel bag (hard suitcases don't store well on boats): swimwear, light clothes, one warm layer for evenings, a windproof jacket, non-slip shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and personal medication. Bed linen and towels are provided.
How do I book a berth?
Send an inquiry via the form on our homepage or message us on Instagram @velavidasails. We'll confirm availability, hop on a call if you like, and reserve your berth with a deposit. Berths are limited to 8.
